Our thriller:

Our thriller is a psychological thriller and therefore I think that it would be rated:

I would rate it this because our target audience for our thriller will be students at the age of 15 or older.

Our Thriller

Alter-Ego

Sound

Sound in our thriller opening title sequence

In our thriller opening title sequence we want to use music which reflects the genre and the theme of our psychological thriller. Our thriller opening title sequence has the theme of light and dark personalities. We have looked at other thriller opening title sequences that inspire us and have looked at the soundtrack they use in these sequences. For example the opening sequences we looked at were "Se7en" and "Dexter", both of these openings had different types of soundtrack, "Se7en" soundtrack created tension and sounded creepy this made the opening titles different and stand out. Whereas "Dexter" soundtrack showed the thriller genre and created tension throughout the sequence.

All of the scenes in our thriller will be silenced so that the background diegetic sound will not be heard, in certain parts of our opening for example when the teenage girl hears the noises. The noises made by the alter-ego will be emphasized in editing and become non-diegetic sound so that it creates tension and so that the noises that are made are clear to the audience. The soundtrack used in our thriller opening title sequence will start as soon as the animation starts to create tension, this is inspired by the opening title sequence of "Se7en". This is typical of the thriller genre as the diegetic sound is usually not heard instead the non-diegetic sound is quietly played throughout the opening sequence, the soundtrack slowly starts to build in the crosendo this creates and builds the tension to show that a certain character is the antagonist.

The soundtrack we have decided to use in our thriller opening title sequence is below. I have used the music called "creepy music box" from YouTube and edited it using "Garage Band" to make the soundtrack better and to suit our thriller opening sequence. We decided to use this soundtrack from YouTube because we thought that with a little bit of editing it would suit our thriller opening sequence and it would reflect the thriller genre.

This is the soundtarck before it was edited using Garage Band.

Company ident

Our Company ident for our thriller:

Our company ident is hand drawn and will be used at the start of our thriller opening title sequence before the animation starts. Our company ident does not move this is because we thought that it would look better without having a moving feature. Our company ident has the name AMOA on, this is because our company name is AMOA productions. It reflects the thriller genre as the tree is creepy looking and the image its self is creative and doesn't look like any that are out there now. Our company ident is unique as it doesn't move and it is hand drawn.

Jerry Bruckheimer films ident is below. This ident is similar to the one we have created however ours doesn't move. Jerry Bruckheimer films ident is similar as it includes a leafless tree and it looks creepy, it also fits the thriller genre as it uses dark lighting throughout the ident. However our company ident does not contain dark lighting as it isn't a moving company ident.

Lighting

Lighting:
We will check the weather the day before we film our thriller opening title sequence, this is because if it is a cloudy day we will need to make sure that we turn all the lights on in the house so that the house isn't dark when we are filming. However if it is a bright day we won't need any of the lights on.

As we might being putting an effect over all the shots in editing to make the film look different and like "Film Noir". We might not have the lights on inside the house if it is a dark gloomy day, this is because we want our thriller opening title sequence to contain natural light so that it looks more realistic.

The lighting we will use in our thriller opening title sequence will be inspired by the opening sequence of the thriller film "Se7en". This is because the lighting in this opening titles show that the type of atmosphere we wish to create in our thriller opening sequence. The lighting used in this thriller opening is mostly dark, this is what we want our opening to include especially when the alter-ego is shown. However when the teenage girl is shown the lighting will be brighter and will be show in a natural light this will show a contrast between both the two different types of personalities (light and dark). We have took inspiration from "Se7en" because it uses a lot of dark lighting which creates the connotation that this is a dark film and that it could be a creepy or sinister film. This film uses natural light throughout the opening sequence this is because it makes it look more realistic, this is what we want our thriller opening sequence to contain.

Job Roles

It is important that every person has a job role in the production as then every piece of work can be completed efficiently. Without job roles nothing would get done and no one would know what they were doing within the group.

Kelsey McPherson - Editor - Kelsey is good for this role because she has had previous experience with editing software. She has also received positive feedback from past editing projects. In the planning Kelsey did lighting, analysis of the pitch, the props. and the shot list.

Holly O'Connell - Director - I am suited to this role because she is good at explaining her ideas and organising groups of people. In the planning I did the job roles, clothing, filming schedule and the shot list.

Elle Abrahams - Producer - Elle is good for this role because she is organised and is good at creating ideas, she is also good at organising a team of people. In planning, Elle did the location, risk assessment and the shot list.

Georgia Allman -  Co-Producer/Make-up - Georgia is suited for this role because she is creative and has good organisational skills. In the planning Georgia did the storyboard, shot list and make-up.

Auditions

Here are the actors auditions and the results.

Character Profile

These actors auditioned for the chance to be the main characters in our thriller opening title sequence, as the two main characters are the same person we only need one actor to play both parts. We will be filming all of the parts that the teenage girl appear in first then we will change the actors make-up and then film all the parts that the alter-ego appears in. Each of the actors in the audition acted out the same scene from our thriller opening, however as we were filming these auditions outside and the ground was still damp from the rain we decided that we would film the actors doing the facial expressions of the alter-ego standing up. In this part of our opening titles sequence the alter-ego is sitting on the floor in the corner of the room rocking back and forth then she reveals her face. We decided that these actors would only act out the part when the alter-ego reveals her face this is because we wanted to know who did the best facial expression to be able to play this role.

Kezia Smith - Kezia has had previous experience within acting as she appeared in a successful theatrical performance. Kezia is well suited to this role as she has done a good audition and she showed a lot of theatrical skills, her facial expression suited this role and character.

Alex Storey - Alex is currently studying drama and she is a good actor and she has had previous experience in acting. Alex took this audition very seriously giving a great performance, however she was not able to accept this role as she had some other commitments at this time.

Leona Bilby - Leona has had previous acting experiences, she gave a good performance however the facial expression she gave us when auditioning was just not how we had imagined the character to have. She was not confident in playing this role and was not comfortable expressing intense emotion which we wanted to see.

Claudia Wilkie - Claudia's performance wasn't very good, this shown by the her laughter at the end of her audition. We decided she wasn't suitable for this role because we wanted to make sure that person who got the role would be able to take it seriously.

Elle Abrahams - Elle gave a great performance, this is because she is in our group and she knows how we wanted this character to act and what facial expression was key for this character. Although she hasn't had any previous experience she gave us a great performance and we thought that she would suit this role well.

The actor we have decided that gets the role is Elle Abrahams this is because she gave a good performance and she was well suited to this role as she showed theatrical skills and her facial expression suited this role and the character. As Elle is in our group she knew how we wanted the different characters to act and she also knew what we wanted her to do. We did not choose Alex to act in our thriller opening sequence because she had other commitments at the time although she gave the best audition, we chose Abbie to be the actor in our thriller opening as she gave the second best audition and could participate in our thriller on the day of filming.

Our pitch

Below is the video of our pitch we did about all our ideas for our thriller opening title sequence.

I think that our pitch went well as we made sure that we explained our points and our ideas. We also made sure that we including typography, job roles, our idea, the style and genre of our thriller and the unique selling point (USP). We explained where the titles might appear throughout our opening sequence and where and when our main title will appear. To improve our pitch we would make sure that we learn what we are going to say before so that we are not reading off a piece of paper.

Our prezi we used in our pitch is above.

The feedback we got from our peers on our pitch was;

Question 1 - Do you like the name? (No 1  2 3  4 5 Yes) and Why?

*Shannon circled the number 5 so this means that she liked our name a lot, she said that it was because it sounds interesting.
*Cameron circled the number 5 so this means that he liked it a lot, he said that it was because its interesting, fits the narrative and leaves the audience with questions.
*Sam circled the number 5 so this means he liked our name a lot, he said that it was because it sounds quite sinister.
*Leona also circled the number 5 so this means that she liked our name a lot, she said it was because it fits the story line and fits the genre of our thriller.

Question 2 - Would you watch the film? (Yes or No) and Why?

*Shannon circled yes and the reason why was because its an interesting narrative and is creative.
*Cameron circled yes and the reason why was because it seems like a new and different idea.
*Sam circled no and the reason why was because it sounds a bit cliché.
*Leona also circled no and the reason why was because its too cliché.

Question 3 - What do you like about the story?

*Shannon said that it is a creative idea and it sounds scary/ freaky.
*Cameron said that he likes the use of just one actor.
Sam said that its well thought out but its similar to many other thrillers.
*Leona said that it seems thrilling and may be scary/ thrilling.

Question 4 - Are the titles clear? (No 1 2 3 4 5 Yes)

*Shannon circled the number 4.
*Cameron circled the number 5.
*Sam circled the number 4.
*Leona circled the number 5.

Question 6 - What would you improve?

*Shannon didn't answer this question.
*Cameron said that he would make more things happen.
*Sam said a better back story.
*Leona said make it less cliché and needs to be more exciting.

Question 7 - Rate the film out of 5 stars, 5* being the best?

*Shannon didn't answer this question.
*Cameron said 4*.
*Sam said 4*.
*Leona said 3*.

From these results we can see that there are mixed views on our thriller idea and we know where we need to improve and how we can improve our idea to make it better.

Our teachers comments are below:

Using the website WWW,dafont.com we chose 5 different types of typography for our thriller title. Each typography is distorted which suits our theme of a psychological thriller. The narrative of our thriller is also quite mysterious and these different types of typography that we chose suit this idea because they all look like titles which could be used in a psychological thriller. We chose the name of our thriller opening title sequence before we looked at the typography this is so that we knew what kind of typography we were looking for and if it related to the genre and the story line.

This screenshot above shows the poll that we created and it also reveals the most popular typography which was number four. This typography is a good choice because it reflects the story line of our thriller opening titles and therefore we will be planning on using this typography all throughout our opening title sequence. This typography suits our thriller genre as it looks like a type-writer font which is sometimes used in this thriller genre, it also reflects the narrative of our thriller.
